I really want to put linux on but with media direct, it's causing a bit of a headache.

I tried installing with with the original dell bootloader intact but ubuntu wont let me use the root (/) partition as the place to grub on.

Now, since I really don't use media direct that much, should I just overwright the bootloader and use grub or what. Also, the root partition for linux would not be a primary partition due to the way dell has the partitions set up.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

You can do it with MediaDirect 2, do a Google search. Haven't heard of anyone doing it with MediaDirect 3.

I don't know, but maybe you can use GRUB to load MD3 ?? (since MD3 is Win XP). You won't be able to use the MD button to boot though.

I know, might as well delete the mediadirect partition too then.
