Just to note - forgot to mention vostro doesn't include delivery - which is £58 inc VAT.

So, 320 more for an inspiron, what the hell?

I can't. I had ordered an Inspiron, but once I found out about the Vostro I promptly cancelled my previous order and ordered the Vostro instead.

It's called marketing: the art of squeezing money out of customers.
    :)

A similar price difference appears in Italy.
    Obviously I got a Vostro.

Because inspirons are more popular... supply and demand?

Because dell like to squeeze every last penny out of the uninformed and those that dont do much research.

I noticed this price difference when i was piecing together a vostro, heres another kicked, you know how theres 3x vostro 1500 pictures to click and configure and they all start out differently? Configure them up and you will get a pretty significant price difference between them, for the EXACT same brand/laptop/specs. This is really apparent for the 1700 as theres two to pick from, ones cheaper & gets the special deals and the other one dosent.

Similar difference here in Australia. The pricing when speced with the same "parts" was about the same ($20 diff) but the included extras, and free stuff with the Vostro put it ahead by about AUD$350 when I bought mine.

Unless you can find a really good coupon for the Inspiron, I don't see anything to justify that £320 difference. The specs look identical.

Note the Vostro is priced ex VAT and the Inspiron inc VAT - there's still a decent price difference, though.

And, as previously stated, if you customise the more expensive system to the same level a customised cheaper one, the dearer model will work out cheaper. It's "cunning" marketing by Dell, you see...
