So how does this thing work? Say for example a friend of mine steals my laptop... and then I call Dell and they use special signals or some crap to track down where my laptop is? And the police go after them, and freak out as I realize we're pulling up to my friend's house? And then I show up at my friend's door in tears that they would actually do this to me, I get my laptop back, and they go to jail?? I'm confused.

You call the police or dell not sure which, but it tracks it by an internet connection so if they don't have internet too bad. Then the police go if they find them and beat the snot out of them and you get your laptop back.

    It uses this ...

    http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/

Once you report it stolen, the company and the local authorities work together to locate the laptop using software located (hidden) on your computer.

I dunno about those situations though... ask the company.

I heard DELL Installs it into the BIOS so even if the thief formats your laptop, LoJack is still active.

I have a feeling several firewalls/anti-virus proggies will stop Lo-Jack with a popup notification:

Alert! Lo-Jack is trying to access the internet. Allow or Disallow?

    :)

But if it's in the BIOS, idk if software firewalls can pick it up...

So can I get one of those stickers that says "Warning! This laptop is equipped with LoJack Anti-theft!" Kinda like the ones you put on your car or front lawn... even if it doesn't really do crap, they'll just think it's not worth the trouble?

I sure hope so, I got the 3 year anti-theft package.

Of course, I'm also considering hiring my own team of snipers to protect it. I don't want anything to happen to it.

You don't want to do that, because there are ways around it...and that would guarantee you never seeing your laptop again ;)
