My g/fs laptop started getting this long pause before the spinning windows 7 logo would appear. Since I was in the mood to get her an ugprade I popped in a Momentus XT 500gb for her and took her 250gb to upgrade my old 8510W. So I reloaded her machine and sure enough I got the same long pause. I think its some sort of windows update that is doing it. Possibly after SP1. My big machine does not do this. Any ideas? This is on a Dell Studio 1458. Thx for any help!

You put new drive and installed Windows 7 on it and it still has pause, am I right?

Maybe you should check in BIOS if HDD is th first device in boot order? I have feeling that laptop is trying to give chance to peripherals or CD/DVD drive to boot smth before start boot hard drive.
If not then update BIOS, set it to default values and if this won't help then pray.
