    My E1505 takes like 3times longer to shut down then it does to boot up, I actually timed it, It took 3minutes and 45sec's to shut down. Is that normal?

    No it's not. Are you shutting down the laptop when there are active processes running (Winamp for example is a monster-hanger)? You need to close processes that are hang-ups. How many processes do you have on startup?

    Do you still have all the Dell bloatware installed on the computer...that bloatware is unwanted in anyone's computer.

    Also I can think of a few things off my head that slow crap down.

    if you have CTXFISPI.EXE then disable it.

    Also sometimes Windows XP (not sure about Vista) has to clear pagefiles for security reasons.

    OpenOffice has known long shutdown times as it tries to get rid of itself from the RAM.

    AVG anti virus has slowed my Vaio FE shutdowns by 2-4 seconds since its install.

    Check out services and msconfig for resource hogs.

    I've deleted the software I didnt want from the add/remove programs. Thats as far as cleaning up goes.
    I have 54 processes running when i check task manager. I dont know crap about what to shut down and stuff like that.
    I would do a reformat but i am not comfortable with that.
    I've disabled alot of crap in MSCONFIG. Dont really know what else i could do.

    You need to do a registry cleanup too.

    The registry is probably blogged down with so much crap left over at those

    uninstalls.

    I should've mentioned i do run CCleaner and Regscrub once a week, so the registry should be pretty clean.

    A couple of things to look , you could look in task manager, see mem usage Tab and look for something over 50,000+k, sort of track down whats hogging.
    A better process viewer would be the one from sysinternals.
    If you dont care about restore points, disable system restore usually speeds things up.
    Anything "Nortons" will degrade machine performance
    Do you have fileshare or P2P programs running all the time?

    without a list of whats going on it will be hard to troubleshoot.

    *I'll also mention if you have Office installed, there is a bug in the windowsupdate which makes everything very slow, including shutdown.

    You could do as in other forums and post a hijack log, and allow others to see whats running.

    I use Intel's software so i don't want to disable it. As for the other stuff i have no idea what any of it does.
    The biggest consumers of mem in task manager are,
    Explorer.exe = 36,828 K
    Firefox= 48,320 K
    and a few svchost.exe = 26,148 K
    CLI.exe = 6,352 K
    EvtEng.exe = 6,972 K
    WLKEEPER.exe = 6,268 K
    svchost.exe = 7,216 K
    wmiprvse.exe = 5,108

    Those are the largest being used.

    lots of clutter, but nothing stands out as an obvious culprit.

    Do you use AOL as Internet provider? there is alot of AOL... running, I know when I got my laptop, I;m sure this sort of "jumps on you" when you first go through the user agreements etc.

    Something did come to me though, you mentioned you use "CCleaner" alot?
    There was some issues with it setting "Clear virtual memory pagefile" on shutdown option which increases shutdown times.
    If you have XP Pro, you can use group policy editor to change this setting back(or perhaps CCleaner can reverse the option)

    Also i was reading this from Microsoft.

    This site has a multitude of information, that makes me think it is a driver issue rather than a process.

    Did this just start recently? perhaps after an update?

    Ok i think i figured it out with your suggestions, I have TuneXP setup to clear pagefile and prefetch on shutdown. I disabled those and now it shutdowns pretty quick.
    Thanks alot for the suggestions and ideas.

    I have a 1505 also and mine takes three minutes to shut down so it's probably normal for vista.

    I've been doing that too. Will it mess things up if I keep doing that for every shutdown?
