LOL why on earth would you wait to unpack your new laptop just so you can take photos to show people on the internet forum ?

these threads always baffle me a bit..as everyone knows what they look like !

I think you read it wrong :)

    This:
    1st laptop: 1984 Tandy 600 (T600)

was the FIRST notebook I ever owned. I've had at least 25 notebooks since then... I still have it! :)

BTW, thanks everybody for the nice compliments. It felt like Christmas and I wanted to share the feeling. I thought I'd show exactly what Dell sends you which is a lot. Excellent manual too.

Nice. It reminds me of doing the same thing three weeks ago. Tuxeo black is the best!

But one question. Why do you keep your new $1,500 XPS notebook on a vintage 1960's TV tray?

I bet it cost more than your M1530, particularly if you factor in the cost of living increase since '84! My dormmate had an IBM PC/AT and that baby cost him just over $3K, if memory serves me well. I was sooo jealous, I had to reserve time at the U's computer center but he was able to do his assignments "online" (using terminal emulation and I imagine a 2400 baud Hayes modem).

I hope the college students today, roaming about campus with wlan and more than abudant computing resources (in terms of data storage and processing speed) in a 5lb package know how good they have it :D

If I wanted to know, say, when the Eniac hit the market, I had to go to the library and "index" the right book; now, the answer's just a few clicks away...
