    Hi,

I'm looking at the M1330, and have 2 quick questions...

    • I definitely would like the LED screen, but I was wondering what brand Dell is shipping these days. Going through the forums I have seen, in order of rating, Samsung (Weird?), Toshiba and CMO. It seems Dell is getting better about their screens, such as now only shipping LG's on the M1530... Is the same true about the M1330?
    • I would like to get a 320 GB Western Digital hard drive from NewEgg (This one), but I was wondering if the laptop could handle a hard drive with a 3.0GB/s interface, instead of the typical 1.5GB/s.

    Thanks!

The screens are only Toshiba and CMO for led backlit lcd's, samsung makes the cfl backlite lcd's.

It can take any sata hard drive. That 320gb will be fine.

Regarding the screen - I don't think Dell has stopped using CMO screens yet. That being said, I have had the opportunity to see both screens in person, and honestly I think the Tosh looks best. If I were you, I wouldn't obsess over this too much. When you get the laptop, check out the screen. If you don't like it, ask for a replacement.

The Dell m1330 supports drives with SATA II (i.e. 3.0 Gb/s). In reality however, you are not going to see that big of an improvement between SATA I and SATA II on platter hard disks. With SSDs, from what I hear, there is a substantial difference.

    Good Luck with the purchase.

the capacity of the drive doesn't correlate directly with the power consumption.

I think the power consumption of an HD depends much more on the rotational speed (7200RPM or 5400RPM, etc) and the number of platters, than on capacity alone...
