I've just been given access to Dell's Premier page through work.
I've been using an M4400 for a while now and realized I want something light that I can take with me on my frequent travels, so I'd like an ultrabook
Normally I've been using my ipad with a keyboard, but there's lots of limitations productivity software wise as I rely entirely on a gimped version of google drive.
I see there's 4 dell ultrabooks on their premier site! (XPS 12 convertable and 13 and the Latitude 12 7000 and 14 7000)
it's a bit hard since they seem to be around a similar price range and nearly similar size.
anyone have experience with these models?
I'm interested in the HD 5000 card so I can do some light gaming here and there..
or if there's a non dell model, I'm open to suggestions

I'd be more inclined toward the XPS 13 due to the i7 processor. What is your budget, that would help us find the ideal ultra-book for you. Would a XPS 14 or 15 be too big for you? They have dedicated gpu's.

costs.. I prefer to keep it around $1000 (probably not possible given my requirements) but no more than $1400 -

I'd really consider getting a XPS 14. it is .6 lbs over your weight limit though. Check the outlet for models with i7.

I used an XPS 12 for a few months, and I really liked it. Especially if you'd like to have the option to convert it to tablet mode and use the touchscreen, I strongly recommend it. It does a fine job as both a classic laptop and touchscreen-device-on-lap. The hinge felt surprisingly strong...

I have tried XPS12 and found that I do not quite like the keyboard. That is if I have to do a lot of typing work. The latitude range is much preferable to me in that department. Unless of course if has more use as a tablet that the less than perfect feel for the keyboard is tolerable.

Having had experience with the XPS13 and both of the Latitude models, I would go with the current XPS 13. It is on par with the 7250 from a size perspective, but with a much nicer screen. The latitudes are definitely more sturdily built.
I specify the machines for my company, but I carry the XPS that is paid for by myself.
For your photo/video needs you will have to assess the impact the built in Intel graphics will have on your workflow. If it is a few seconds here or there, then I would go XPS. If it is more significant than that then you have to decide.
The new XPS 13 is a nice machine.
Looking for Ultrabook: XPS 12 or 13? or Latitude 12 or 14?
