    Hi guys,

just got a brand new Dell 700m during the week-end. I am looking for advice for a case with the proper fitment for this notebook.

Obviously, something designed for compact notebooks as most cases I have seen are much too large or bulky, and preferably made of leather. Right now I'm not decided yet on a "normal" case with strap and handles or one of those slip cases meant to be held under the arm.

    Thanks for your input.

    Dear Niko,
I am no expert either and have a 700M. I carry it in a Halliburton DZ7 with my Pwrbook. Snug but safe. I have the Shinza "skins" on the Dell as a cushioning effect in this hardcase. I also use the Booq Messenger for 17". Again, but Dell and Mac can be carried comfortably.

I also use a Spire backpack. No complaints either. My friend uses a Case bag for her laptop (a IBMx40). Leather is too expensive and you do have to take care of it - Halliburton here has such bags and sells their maintenance lotion for it. Whatever bag you buy, think of getting a "sock" or sleeve for your Dell. Shinza has a medium one but pricey. But most companies that sell bags have sleeves as options. Spire is pretty well liked here. It does not shout "Laptop here to be stolen!". Also, I use Rad's keyboard/lcd screen protectors. Keeps the keyboard from imprinting your fingerprints or other onto the display when the laptop is closed up.
Sounds too intense but remember, the laptop is not cheap.

By the way, I am also insured by Safeware, Applecare(3 years) and Dell's extended plan (4 years).
Sorry if I went off. And sorry for lack of leather info.
    Good night to all.
    Sincerely, macmac

Leather smells good, huh? [ :D]

I'm receiving my Dell 700m sometime tomorrow, but I had impatiently already bought a black leather tote for it from Wilson Leather, that was on clearence. I'll try and see how well it fits, and if it's good.

Only thing about leather is you have to be really careful in the rain. I obsessively carry an umbrella everywhere with me, seeing that I live in rainy Seattle. I suggest a good coat of leather rainguard for the bag.

anxiously waiting for my dell laptop!

Actually, leather does have a impact in the board rooms.

One thing is that in rain, some low-quality leather (which can fool most anyone as high) can have "run-off". Smearing of reddish "paint" onto your suit or shirt. You won't notice it until someone mentions it. The straps should be scrutinized also.

But, I still would take a hardcase or Booq's air-suspension design in ballistic nylon over a leather case. But yes, I agree. Leather looks good!

    Thanks for your input guys.

Through my own research I have come across a compact leather bag with two main compartments that is a perfect fit (not too big, not too small) from Samsonite, in a B&M store here in Canada. I have not seen this on the Samsonite website unfortunately so I don't know if it's still a current model or old model. It is CAD $130.

I have also looked into some bags at ebags.com in the thin/light category. My hesitation is that it's difficult to gage bag quality for on-line purchases, although fitment is easier since interior dimensions are given.

    Niko,
Do you know the exact type of the samsonite bag? I'm really interested in getting one but I'm also worried about getting one that I can't first check out and put my computer in before buying.

    thanks

I found what seems like an attractive leather portfolio case on the Brenthaven web site (www.brenthaven.com -> shoulder cases -> leather portfolio).

According to general comments on forums about Brenthaven products, this would seem like a good buy for the price (USD $79). It would also seem to be of the proper dimensions to fit the 700m with little extra space to spare.

I'm just about to order this. Any comments from other users about this brand?

FWP... I couldn't get the product number unfortunately. This was in a B&B store and I didn't get the chance to see the tag.

    Hassruben,

I don't know if the AC Adapter is on the Dell web site but common sense tells me that if it's not, a simple phone call to Dell and they should be able to sell one to you.
