I'm looking for the lightest, yet most powerful Pentium M powered Dell made.. Something between 1.8ghz and 2.13ghz..

I've found a couple of models, such as the 300M/300X and D410 which are pretty light with standard sized components between 3 lbs and 4 lbs.. is there anything else out there?

    Thanks,

    Jay

D430 - ULV Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz. Much better then a single core Pentium M

Really? I thought ULV chips lacked somewhere, like you can't force it go full speed cause they are constantly trying to slow down? Of course, I haven't read much on ULV chips.

Plus, doesn't the D430 use a 1.8" hd? I should have mentioned this but I need something with a 2.5" so that it can be upgraded to a 7200rpm.

To my knowledge Dell's ultraportables have always had 1.8" hard drives, so if you have to have a Dell and a 2.5" HDD, you'll have to go up to the 14" range.

If you can stand this, I higly recommend a D400/D410, as it's an excellent computer.

Dell XPS M1210 has a 7200 RPM, but it is expensive

Anybody here know if the 300M or X300 use a 2.5" harddrive or not? at 2.9lbs, that thing sounds like a winner, especially if one can upgrade the Pentium M cpu to the newest 2.13ghz.. Would make for a pretty nice, very lightweight laptop.

M1210 isn't discontinued just yet, they don't advertise it anymore, you can still configure one on Dell's website though. But yeah, it's definately not what i'd consider lightweight or ultraportable.

We use a couple of D410s in my office and I really like their weight/formfactor.. they seem to have everything I need, but again, I feel like I could find something equally as nice as the D410 in a lighter form. The 300M/X300 seems like a lighter version of the D410, but unfortunely they come with the first generation Pentium Ms and i'm not sure if they can upgraded to a 2nd gen Pentium M.

The 700m for sure. It was a very very nice machine for its price back then, and it was pretty solid.

Yes, the Banias and Dothan Pentium M's on those computers should be fully interchangeable. I had a first generation Banias 1.7GHz pentium M on my last Dell, and upgraded it to a 2.0GHz Dothan about a year ago.

No kiddin. I couldn't let go of my 700m for a long while, but I started considering Sony SZ series until 1330 came which I snatched up right away. 1330 is a nice step-up from 700m, but I'm still having troubles letting go my 700m :)

Does anybody know if the 300M/X300 has a 2.5" harddrive and if the Pentium M (ULV) can be upgraded as well?

Yea, back when Dell had the $750 off $1499 coupons one could get a fully loaded 700m for less then $800, which was an amazing deal considering the market at the time.

Went with the Dell Latitude X300 1.4ghz Pentium M, 2.9lbs.. waiting to receive it, purchased from Ebay. ;) It's a great happy medium between speed and ultraportableness from every review i've read.

Could have picked up a 300M for a little cheaper, but they are all 1.2ghz..

Really wanted this D410 that had an upgraded 2.13ghz Pentium M in it but the auction went up to about $600 + shipping, no thanks.
