I just came back from my local Dell kiosk.

I asked the CSR to check my order status. I found out he has access to DOPS, a program Dell uses to check the precise status of their orders. I'm guessing all CSR's at Dell kiosks have access to it, unlike most CSR's when you call.

I found out that my notebook has been delayed. On the Internet, it is written that my notebook will be delivered on Aug 20. The CSR at the Dell kiosk was able to show me it will ship on Aug 27. He was also able to check what was delaying my order. There is a 9-day delay on the processor.

So there you have it. If you're looking for the most accurate and informative order status, go to a Dell kiosk.

There's also an online form that you can get to from the order status page. I used it yesterday to ask about my 1420 (t7300, brown, glossy).

Today they got back to me - the order status page is wrong, it says est.ship date of August 15th. Today I got this:

"Our records indicate that your order is currently on a 14 day back order. This is to be added to the 7-10 business days for delivery. We estimate your order should be shipping from our warehouse on 09/04/07. "

What's the point of having an order tracking system if it isn't accurate? They didn't offer next-day shipping and I need this thing before I leave for school. The rep who emailed me was polite but inflexible. I'm cancelling my order.

    When did you order yours?

By the way, I also found out today that notebooks ordered in Canada are built in Texas, sent to Purolator's head office in Toronto and then shipped to your home. I read somewhere on the forum that they are built in Malaysia. That is untrue.

oh yours is built in Texas?? US orders are made in Malaysia, my dad's 1501 just came in and it says "Made In Malaysia"
Perhaps I won't have the same delay as you since our laptops are not in the same production center.

    Ordered 08/07

hmmm, just went to Dell Canada order site and the T7100 is not even available as an option anymore, but on the US website it is still available and no delays are shown. I'm going to hope the processor delay does not include US orders

I was actually going to bring that up. You can no longer order a T7100 processor from Dell Canada.

Well I just sent my sis to a dell kiosk near her and they guy told her that he couldn't give her an exact date besides the 8/28 date but he said the delay was because of the colors which is obvious. But the reason was because during the manufacturing process there was some containment that was added and it caused the colors to peel and bubble so they had to redo all of them and that happened a couple weeks ago. Sounds legit to me.

    I was wondering...

If you wanted compensation for delays, maybe speaking face-to-face with a CSR at a Dell kiosk is the way to do it...

I actually ordered from a kiosk! However, once the system was ordered, they couldn't do much more. They tried to get the supervisor involved, but he wasn't any help.
