Hello everyone, I have studio 1555 laptop and wanna do some tricks on it so I have some questions. What can I do for heating problems? Thinking to change thermal compound with zalman stg2 but many people says IC diamond 7 better. (If anyone used any on them please tell your opinions) Also I've saw copper shim mods on gpu, how effective are they? Advices about these and anything about heating welcomed![]()

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Have you already tried to clean out the dust from the the vents and heatsink? If not I'd try that before doing anything fancy... of course you will need to repaste if you take out the heatsink, but the difference in the various pastes should be negligible compared to the difference between a clean thermal solution and a clogged one.

This model is like a stove - you can literally fry eggs on the keyboard. The one I was dealing with was with CPU = Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 and GPU = ATI 4530HD (although not very certain, might have been 4570).
Nothing of the standard procedures helps - clean vents, new machine oil on Fan, new thermal pad on GPU (Phobya) and new paste (AS5) - GPU was still reaching 104C when playing games.
Undervolting [ link] the processor helped the most - lowered CPU temps with 10C straight. Since GPU and CPU are on one heatsink I expected GPU to also get lower temps but alas - still 104C under stress.
I even went further on to undervolt the GPU itself, which was actually possible. From 1.2V to 1.1V stable but I didn't see any improvement and dropped the experiment.
Replacing the termal pad on the GPU with a copper shim... There is a tread here for dell 1557 and I would guess it will work on 1555 as well. Heatsinks do look similar. I haven't tried it yet but would definitely like to - it should help getting 5-10C off...but that is just my guess.
Based on my experience with 1555 I would recommend you to go through a deep cleaning with new paste on CPU and then Undervolting.
Looking for recommendations with heat problem. (Thermal paste, fan etc.)
