So I am looking to buy a portable laptop to take with me around campus. Thing is, I am an engineering student, and I will be using programs such as autocad and the like. Will the 1330 be able to handle these kinds of programs with an 8400m GS? I looked at the t61's, but the 1330 is really more appealing to me right now.

Hey I am a (mechanical) engineering student too, I ran AutoCAD 2007 and Matlab fine on my older computer (3.2 Ghz AMD, 512 MB RAM, 128MB ATI 9200 GPU http://www.artmodding.com/images/ATI9200.jpg) and they ran just fine.
Sorry its not comparable since its much older technology, but since I could run it fine with my old system, the m1330 will be fine, but you could always go for the m1530 to be on the safe side, although it is a bit bigger.

I got my laptop for the same reasons but I opted for the M1530 because of the bigger screen (I play a few games :) ) and because it offered a better graphics card. That may be the only reason (better graphics card) why you may want to get the m1530 or similar laptop.

    Cheers

I already have an Asus c90, which is loaded out the wazoo (2.4 conroe desktop processor, and 256mb DDR3 8600m GT), but it is pretty heavy, and I will spend most of my day lugging it around campus. I would also like something that is smaller and has a longer battery life. Haha, I'm giving up computer gaming to focus on school, and plus, I have a 360 to game on

Yes, you should be fine. Even an integrated X3100 should do (but not recommended if you have a better choice)

yeah if I were you I would go for the m1330 and I would take the 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS.

AutoCAD can get a bit sticky at time, better to be on the safe side.

That's good to know. I love my c90, but it is not portable enough to keep it around while I am up at campus. Alas, I must give up computer gaming to focus on school...

I know what you mean by ready to get back to school... it feels a bit weird to have nothing to do... especially b/c the semester is so hectic

I am going to UC Berkeley Mechanical Engineering, junior year.
    Loving it ! You?
