So I plan to take advantage of Dell deals and order a 15. I've got it configured with the 1GB ATI card.

What I can't decide is between better screen, or better processor. I have to come in under $1,000 shipped, and can't have both.

15.6” High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife (Standard)
15.6” Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife [add $75]

    OR

    2010 Intel® Core™ i3-350M 2.26GHz (3M cache) [Included in Price]
    2010 Intel® Core™ i5-430M 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3M cache) [add $75]

I haven't been keeping up with the i series of processors, so I'm not sure. A few questions:

Is the i3 suitable for gaming with the listed GPU?
How much of a performance upgrade will I see in the i5?

How much brighter is the "High Brightness" display?
What resolution is the 720p display?

    Thanks very much in advance.

The 720p display is 1366x768 60hz. I currently have the 720p but originally ordered the 1080p (dell screwed it up with my first replacement but am getting the 1080p with the 2nd replacement). I had the 1080p I say its worth it. The images are amazing, the brightness is very good everything looks bright and clear i love the 1080p (can't wait to get it back). The brightness between the 1080p and the 720p there's no difference. As for the processor i currently have the T6600 2.20GHZ and i can run games on med settings no problem so the I3 seems perfect for your needs. (but if you want extreme gaming then go for the I5)

Ah, thank you very much for the info on the screen resolution - that's actually what I was afraid of. Sometimes I see 720p advertised, and it's 1680 x X. That I could have worked with, but 1366x768 I think I would be extremely disappointed with on a 15' laptop. I'll be going with the 1080p, I think.

Really I have a PC custom built for gaming. It's a little older, but is more than capable of anything I can throw at it still. This laptop is going to be mainly used for recreation, very light on the gaming. Lord of the Rings Online is probably the extent to it there, and I have no doubt that it could handle it as configured.

Hm. While we're here, I'm looking at this, and they want $66 for the power brick. Checking Ebay, I can get one for $25. This seems like a no brainier to me, but I thought I might put it out there and ask?

    Edit:
Nevermind, earlier today I had the option to remove the power adapter from the purchase, but I don't anymore.

No worries, i find that the colors in the 720p look washed out. 1366x768 makes the screen kind of awkward for me.
