Thought I'd let you guys know how i fixed my wobbly battery problem. When you slide the battery you theres the rails that the battery slides on. But a few layers of scotch tape on the battery rails to make them fit more snug. Then slide the battery back in and it should be snug and wobble free. Now if anyone has a clever idea to fix the wobbly screen Id be interested to know.

I know my idea is pretty obvious, but some people arent very smart. And I didnt know other had posted it already. But Im more interested in a fix for the wobbly screen. If theres a way to take it apart and tighten something or whatever? Is there a post anywhere about that?

I know a great solution for a loose battery. Send it in to Dell repair and have them replace the entire bottom of the computer. That's their standard fix. And if it's in warranty, it's free. Why do it this way?

First of all, it's not a jerry-rig to the problem. Tape is just a quick fix; it doesn't really solve the problem. And second, what if you want to sell the computer on eBay someday? Surely, you'll want to get rid of it when it's time to upgrade? How are you going to explain a loose battery to your potential buyer? I sent my 1420 in for a new case bottom, and it came back to me good as new - no cost to me. Problem solved...forever.

So there you go, the right solution for poor manufacturing tolerances.

That's what we mean by a loose battery. Moves around. Wobbles. Shifts back and forth. It should have a nice, snug fit. It should snap into place and not move at all. If it doesn't, you've got one of the first generation of case bottoms. Those had a manufacturing defect, thus causing the battery to wobble around.

Do you have an older laptop around the house? Does your battery wobble on that one? Probably not. So there's your definition. All these folks that want to fix their loose battery problem with tape, Velcro, whatever; it's not a true fix. It's a band aid. Get it done the way it should have been done in the first place. Send it back to Dell and tell them to make it right. That's what you paid for, right?
