My new Inspiron 15R SE mysteriously lost it's ability to connect via wi-fi. It was working just fine but when I registered the lic. code for Office Home and Student it would no longer connect. Now here's where it gets strange. The rig shows that it is connected to the wi-fi but it shows that the wi-fi is not connected to the internet. It indicates 5 bars of signal strength. Also, the other laptop I have as well as the desktop connects just fine. Don't what to do. I have no one around to give a hand. Tech help via Dell does nothing. The problem is the same with the ethernet cable plugged directly into the laptop

You can either try re-loading the driver, or try doing a system restore

    Hi dunkinidaho,

This could be because of a security update; the DNS (Domain Name System) settings may be corrupted. Since, the system was able to connect to the internet few days ago; you can try to run a ‘System restore’ to a known good date as suggested by dave-P. Please use the link below, which explains how to perform a system restore in Windows 7.

System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

In case you have McAfee anti-virus program installed in the system please try the below mentioned steps.
    • Please turn of the Computer.
    • Restart the system and press F8 during the Dell logo.
    • From the advanced boot menu please select “Safe mode with networking”
    • Please click on the below mentioned link and follow the instructions that is listed for Windows 7.
