Are you using the stock speakers, or are you listening with another object? DVD movies have increased dynamic range, so that can make it seem as though there is insufficient volume. What you ought to do, is try to decrease the dynamic range . . . Try looking for a player that allows you to set the player for "night listening" or something similar to that. That usually compresses the dynamic range, which has a normalizing effect on the sound output. That means, that the difference between the loudest and softest sounds is greatly reduced.

Another thing I would try, is using a good pair of headphones, or outputting to your home stereo. See if there is still an issue.

The last thing would be to go to the control panel and adjust your sound volume settings. Crank them up, or make sure that they aren't already at their max output.
