I'm going to be picking up my replacement unit later today. I'm just wondering, do I have to format or delete the partition or any sort before sending back to Dell? Do I have to reformat for them back to factory default or will they do it themselves?
It would be wise to delete all my personal data first before sending back right (even though it's mostly downloaded videos and a few lecture notes)?
Anyone have any experience with sending it back? How would I know that they have received it on their end? I've never had to do any replacement of any sort in my whole life before. This is the first time because of one dead pixel. Oh well...
Let's hope my new unit is perfect or else both of these are going back.

They actually exchanged the notebook because of one dead pixel? The policy is six I think.
Anyway, just use their recovery partition to get it back to default. Make sure you wipe your personal data too. -
Yea, I called XPS service the day I got it and found out, and I told them specifically that I have one dead pixel and he said no matter how many, as long as you are not satisfied, you can get it exchanged. I think they are probably nice during the first 30 days because customers have the right to return it. I could have just returned it you know and order a new one...
How do I use their recovery partition to get it back to default? Can anyone guide me? I know how to format and install fresh XP.

dell exchanged my notebook for 1 dead pixel also.
no hassle, no arguing. the phone call took less than 10 mins total including hold time and explaining the situation to the rep.
new notebook has a perfect lcd. no dead/stuck pixels. perfect light spread. -
I think you can trigger the recovery program by hitting F11 during bootup. It's been a while since I used that program, since it loads all the bloatware back up.
