I have been reading your posts and found all the info you have given helpful. I just received my M1210 on Monday afternoon. The specs are C2D, T7200, AV package, 1 GB mem, 120 GB HD, Go 7400, XP MCE, bluetooth, audigy, Intel 3945. As soon as took out the laptop out of the box, I was in love with the looks. However, the love soon faded as it would not power on. So I removed the battery and AC adapter before starting again and all was fine. To make a long story short, I have received a host of problems since then, including blue screen errors in regards to win32k.sys and monfilt.sys, self reboots, black/grey/blank screens, not powering up, frozen computer, and now, after going thru with tech support, it will not go past the "www.dell.com" screen during boot up.
Has anyone heard of this before? What is going on? Clearly I have to return the system but I am wondering if I should repurchase it after all of this. The alternative would be the Sony SZ but I so much preferred the M1210 (before all of this occurred).
Thanks in advance.

Honestly, it just sounds like a bad system. I've only had problems with my 1210 when I was using the Dell Windows install. One clean install later, and I've not had 1 issue. Get it replaces and do a reformat, and you should be good to go. Probably just a bad egg.

Oh, it also did not recognize the AC adapter saying the type could not be determined and I also got a screen full of some crazy characters but it seems like the underlying message was some kind of memory failure at some location and to try reseating the memory

Return that lemon, no question about it. But get another, no question about that either. The m1210 is the far and away best laptop I've ever seen, I wouldn't trade mine for a sony, that's for sure. The worst part about it, and the only real drawback is the bloatware that Dell puts on there. Once you deal with that, you will LOVE this machine.

Thank you yoopermjm! I did just that with a new system slated to arrive 11/2. Hopefully no more bad luck with Dell's laptops (I had a bad experience with my inspiron 9100 as well so this seems to be par for the course for dell and me)

Let us know how it is when you get it. I'll be surprised if it's not great.

Agreed with the above. Take advantage of the 21 day no questions asked return policy and start fresh. The chances of having any problems at all on the second one are very slim.
