Hey, im really considering getting the M1210 with the lowest RAM selection, then just going out and buying 4GB of ram (2X 2GB) for $400 instead of $1400 from Dell. But im just wondering, whats the maximum MHZ that the M1210 can handle, and how many pins are the RAM slots? 240? Because i see Ram thats 667 MHZ and RAM thats over 1000 MHZ, and im just wondering what the better selection would be. Also, what is a good brand of RAM to go with if im getting a 4 GB set up? Thanks

You want to look for 200-pin, and I believe the highest mhz of ram you are able to get is 667 (because it depends on the motherboard?). But, first of all, if your only getting a 32-bit OS, then the max amount of RAM you will be able to have is 3 GB's, so save yourself some money, and get a 1 GB-1 DIMM (if possible) and then buy a $90 2 GB stick of RAM, for a total of 3 GB's.

oh man i dint even think of that DOH lol... Thanks.. but one more thing.. if i get a 1 DIMM 2GB and a 1 DIMM 1 GB, they both have to be DDR2 obviously, but do they have to be the same manufacturer? Cause i think i read somewere that you shouldent mix and match because tey might not be compatible with eachother and such. Thanks for teh help

ew... i was just reading up and the only choices are; 1GB 2 DIMM, 2 GB 2 DIMM, and 4 GB 2 DIMM. So bascially all I can do is get the 2 GB, then buy a 1 DIMM 2 GB stick and that will get me 3 GB, i just hate to waste that extra money for nothing cause now i will have an extra 1 GB stick and no use for it lol... i wonder if my desktop is 240 Pin... lol doubt it.

sorry for the triple post lol but i think the NForce 430 chipset(which my desktop has) has teh 240 pin DIMM slots to.. anyone happen to know about this?
-
You need DDR2 200-pin(240-pin will not fit) SoDIMM(desktop memory will not fit in a laptop) PC2-5300 RAM. Also even if you put 4gb with a 64bit OS you will only be able to use ~3gb due to a chipset limitation.
Look in the Hot ram deals thread for great prices on ram and read the notes/rot. -
2X 2GB) for $400 instead
Why would you do that when it only cost about $170 -
cause i dont know where i can get it for $170
-
Oh man! I apologize for the wrong information in my first post.
You do need 200-pin and NOT 240-pin, I apologize again. Now Fanelli what you could do is get the 2x1 GB RAM, then sell one of those sticks on Ebay, or even these forums for like $20-25 or something, I'm sure someone will buy it. -
thats what i was thinking, but i dont think im going to sell it ill just give it away to someone lol its not worth shipping and such for $20 in my oppinion. Thanks for your help guys, you really did help me make my decision. Im going to go with 2 X 1GB then give one stick away, then im going to buy 1 2GB stick, and that will give me 3GB yaaaaay lol.
