So the other day I decide to see if Dell has any updated drivers/goodies what have you, and to my surprise, I find a new BIOS update. Woohoo!

After downloading, I turned off everything I possibly could and ran it, but got an error about "not enough memory" and to "please reboot and try again".

I rebooted as suggested, but now, whenever I try to run the BIOS flasher, I get the following error:

    "Application Error Return 0x00000610
    Windows Error Return 0x00000002

Please try again or download the file again. If you continue to have problems, please contact technical support."

Anybody else run in to this problem, and if so, any ideas as to how to fix it?

    Thanks,

    HH ;)

try running the program at your standard config, also make sure your on ac power, bios flashes can be really bad if screwd up, Dell might be taking extra steps to make sure your running a sound system before you attempt this procedure.

note, some of the devices you turned off could play a part of the bios update, and the fact that they are turned off could trip a saftey precautin preventing the update

when updating the bios: boot at standard configuration, run on ac power, and have a flashable verion of the previous bios on hand

I had the same problem on a different dell laptop. In the end the only thing I could do was make a bootable dos cd with the bios update file. (the windows bios update you downloaded also runs in DOS). boot from the cd and run the program and it works fine.

To make the cd I used CDBurnerXP Pro 3. It comes with a bootable dos image...most other cd burning software should as well. The only file i added to the cd was the bios program.

If anyone finds a way to fix the original problem so that the updates can run in windows as they are meant to please post the solution here. Disabling AV is rumored to work but didnt help me at all.

Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone for all the help w/ my BIOS update.

After a new collection of CD coasters & much trial & error figuring out how to do the whole thing in Japanese DOS, I finally got A04 installed last week w/o any problems.

Thanks a ton...you're rock stars all of ya. :)
