Hi guys, i got my M1210 back in July last year and I have a problem with my DVD-RW drive. I'm not sure which kind it is, but whenever I play DVDs, I get choppy playback from it. It wasn't the first time as it happened last year in August, and I did a system restore and it fixed it for a while. I'm not sure whether the problem is with the drive or software because the problem is persistant in WMP classic, VLC, and PowerDVD as well as MediaDirect. Also, does anyone's M1210 have scratch marks along the hinge? Mine is start to scratch a little and the armrest next to my touchpad is starting to creak. ha thanks again

Go to device manager and make sure the secondary IDE channel is set to DMA and not PIO. If it says PIO then uninstall the IDE channel and restart. Upon restart it'll reinstall the channel and set it back to DMA.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it seems to fit my problem.

I just had my motherboard and video card replaced due to a buzzing fan and now my DVD-RW drive won't recognize dvds. I know the tech flashed the Bios, could that have changed something?

I was trying to install Overlord but the drive just keeps spinning up and all I can ever see in My Computer is the title of the disk, but the icon never changes. I changed the mode from DMA (if available) to PIO, but I don't think it should be set that way.

Any advice? I tried uninstalling the device, but it gives the same problems when it reinstalls it. If I set it to PIO only, it reads DVDs (I'm able to install Overlord).

    Thanks,
    Jon
