I have a new 1210 and the DVD playback volume is extremely low. I've noticed some people recommeding different codecs and things for other Dell models, however does anyone know the right direction to take on the 1210?

Also tried the one DVD I have with me at the office (clear and present danger) and it wont play full screen...... I "assumed" lol.... that with this screen I could play video edge to edge...

    Any help is appreciated.

Try a different dvd program, like Interwin DVD, or Cyberlink DVD

Even though your display is a widescreen one, it still wont play widescreen movies completly at the edges. Movies are at an even wider aspect ratio than your display, it will be close, but not quite.

Now if its playing quiet try this. Make sure the volume is all the way up to start. They're small speakers so they're not super loud to begin with. Then go into the audio options via the control pannel, and make sure it set to a 2 speaker set up, and not headphones, that makes a difference in sound quality/volume.

Thanks everyone. I had already adjusted every possible scenario through the various settings. So I reinstalled the default sound drivers and it fixed the volume through the speakers. However if you use the headphone port it about blows your eardrums on the lowest levels possible.

I like the mediadirect concept but so far it's required some tinkering to dial things in. I will probably start testing other codecs and try to level things out.

So I guess any other dvd software will work with media direct? Once again I've only had this machine a week and digging in to how things really work.

    Thanks,

    Scott
