    Hey all,

In trying to put Ubuntu on my M1210, seems I've run into a bit of an issue.

According to GParted, 3 of the sectors on my hdd (100GB 7X00rpm) have gone bad. I ran the Dell diagnostics partition and got the following error:

"DST Short Test: Fail Error 2000-0146"

From the little bit o' Googling that I've done, I realize this means that the hard drive is dying, but the thing is that I can still boot up in either WinXP or Ubuntu w/o any problems.

I bought this system in July of last year and have 4 year complete care, so should I just get in touch w/ Dell to replace it or is there something I can do to repair the thing?

    Thanks in advance!

    HH ;)

Bump, and another interesting aspect to this problem.

Even though I've completely wiped the hard drive, i.e. according to the WinXP boot disk set up I've only got 1 partition w/ 93,958MB, I can still access the diagnostic partition by pressing F12 at boot.

    Huh?

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks!
