does anyone know how to find out the RPM on the HDD?, i ordered 120GB 5400RPM HDD, but it only shows 99GB, 80 free space and 10GB for recovery, want to know if its a 7200 or 5400rpm HDD
....and my processor, under system properties it says Core 2 2Ghz(Core 2 Duo?), instead of putting in a core 2 duo sticker they put a centrino duo sticker?
...and there's a bit of play next to the Home, End ...key buttons
anyone else had these problems?

you should reformat your HDD.
The reason it shows 99 free is because dell installed a crap load of bloatware onto your computer before they shipped it.
so if i were you, and you dont need media direct, reformat from the CD and delete all the partitions.
you'll see that you should have like around 120G.
good luck -
also, there is play on my home/end keys as well.

wuts bloatware?
-
The reason you have a Centrino sticker, is because hat is the name of the Intel package. The package consists of a mobile processor (Core 2 Duo), an Intel wireless adapter, and an Intel mobile chipset. So, they sell you three products, instead of just the single processor. It is very clever and effective marketing. Its nothing to worry about, as you still have a Core 2 Duo processor.
Bloatware are programs and utilities that manufacturers put onto the notebook when sold. Programs like trial versions of Norton, that clog the computer up, and steal most resources that result in a slower computer. Some programs are useful, but the ones that aren't should be uninstalled. -

Run HD TUNE. It will display the hard drive manufacturer, model and real size at the top. Google the model number.
They probably gave you the 100 7200rpm hitachi. -
go into the device manager to get the drive model number, then google it

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
You have lost a bit of space due to the media direct, recovery, and diagnostic partitons.
-
The 100GB drives have about 92GB of space available. So if you have 99GB + media direct + restore partitions you definitely have the 120GB model.
-
so its a 120gb Western digital HDD, its got 3 partitions 1. 10GB(recovery), 2. 99GB to use, 3. 2GB( i guess this is for vista?)
-
yea my total capacity is 111GB even though they call it a 120gb
-
It has to do with binary math...it's got 120,000,000,000 bytes in it which is about 111GB bytes as far as the computer is concerned.
-
I said it should be AROUND 120G. I've reformatted enough HDD to know that lol
-
Can some one list the unwanted bloatware installed on xps m1210 that can be removed without any issues. It would be a great help, thanks.
-
Its recommended to do a complete reformat.
-
Mine is a 100 GB - No Partitions at all - No Recovery - But only 93 GB. Why is it so?
-
But in computer science Kilobyte = 1024 (2^10) not 1000
If you divide manufacturers Gigabyte by 1024^3 you will get 0.931 actual Gigabytes -
-
Thanks for the Info...is there any 120 GB 7200RPM Out there in the market for the XPS Series
-
Benna:
Sorry, the largest 7200RPM HDs are 100GB -
I' m getting the 100GB 72k then.....
