Hey everybody,
This is my first post and I just got my XPS 1210 yesterday, however, the screen was terrible. I'd get reddish-pink pixel streaks on dark backgrounds and when i played DVD's. I called tech-support yesterday and hooked my laptop to my external monitor and the reddish-pink color wasn't on there. I also get waves of blue color on the gray borders of some windows that are really obvious. They're sending an onsite representative tomorrow to replace the LCD, but I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and whether it might be a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Thanks.

the screens have been a huge issue from the start. There are three makes of the screen, toshiba, samsung, and AUO.
Auo supposedly makes the best. At least from consumer reportings.
samsung second, and the toshibas are supposed to be the worst! definitely get that replaced by your on site tech and hopefully it works. Ask him if it's a AUO screen.
btw, I'm not sure whether your problem is software or hardware related. I just wanted to inform you about the monitors. lol -
Sounds like lots of dead pixels to me. Definitely get that replaced.

Is there a way to tell which screen you got???

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
It sounds like a borked screen to me, the external display proves that, is it very cold where you live? If the outdoor temp has more than a 10 degree difference, I highly reccomend allowing ample time for the temps to adjust before even opening the box, let alone starting her up, especially in winter, I've seen screens crack just from being moved from an extremely cold car(it had been left there for several hours), 20f, to warm environments say 80f, without even being fired up. A good rule of thumb is to give it at least 30 minutes(60 would be better) for every 10 degrees it needs to adjust, let it adjust in the coolest part of a room for the first half, and NEVER put it anywhere near a heat source, the idea is to let it adjust slowly, the warehouses and trucks the shippers use are not climate controlled, and the sudden temp shock isnt good for any of the parts, especially the screen.
That might have nothing to do with your problem, but ya never know, in the winter months its a good practice to follow with anything that generates heat during operation, or has flexible parts, such as an lcd screen, it will also greatly benefit your battery as well. -
Well i think my LCD is made by samsung. And I don't think it's the temperature thing since I'm in LA and it's not that cold. Dell gave me a call today and the0 automated caller told me that the screens were on backorder
looks like a lotta people are having this problem. If this new screen is crap too I'm going to have to return this and probably go with the sony sz
. And if i return it due to their manufacturing defects am I still liable to a restocking fee? because that'd would really make me
. Thanks for your replies.
