When the MediaDirect button is pressed in Windows on M1210 machines, Sonic Cineplayer automatically loads (also known as Dell Media Experience). The problem with this is that Cineplayer is trial software, and after about a month the software asks you to activate the product in order to use it.
If I do not wish to purchase a licence, MediaDirect functionality when Windows is running is therefore useless. Are there any legal workarounds to this? Can I direct Media Experience to use another player?

yea, call and complain. they shouldn't be advertising the notebook with that functionality, and then fail to mention it is only trial ware. that's a lot of garbage.
that being said, i don't think you can re-map the button. i know you couldn't on the M140. -
Dell should give you the OEM version of Cineplayer. If not, you can request Cyberlink PowerDVD from Dell's Tech Support as an alternative. Most of the inspirons use this, and it is fully compatible with MD.

They should, but they didn't. Instead I got a trial version.
I already have a retail copy of PowerDVD 6 Deluxe but DMX on the M1210 does not use this. Maybe I need the Dell version of PowerDVD... -
The MediaDirect button directs me to Windows Media Centre
I like that since I don't use all those other craps Dell gives me.
