I was looking at the M1210 in the Dell Store this past weekend, and it's really a beautiful piece of work. One thing is slightly bothering me though - the black finish on the lid feels like rubber or something, and I think it would be extremely prone to smudging from fingers and stuff.

Is that the case? If so, is it manageable?

the lid is magnesium alloy, not rubber.

yes, it is prone to oil from your finger. Nothing you can really do about it besides wipe your hands vigorously on your jeans.

I didn't expect a metal alloy to be so...grippy. But yeah, I guess that's just something that's gonna happen. At least scratches won't be as big of an issue.

I actually think its a good thing it being a fingerprint magnent, its a constant remider to keep it maintained, not just a quick wipe down, but regualar dustings of the internals with compressed air as well.

Get a stainless steel cleaning mitt or cloth from a bed bath and beyond type store. They are designed to clean skin oil, fingerprints, and smudges from stainless steel trashcans and appliances. They cost around US$5 and do wonders for any shiny, easily fingerprinted metal surface.

The fingerprints are really easy to get off though, just take like, the end of your shirt and start rubbing and the fingerprints go away.

As Iceman and a lot of us with M1210s think there really are not a lot of negatives about this system it will do just about anything you can do on a desktop and ask for more, So we defend them quite religiously.

yes sir. I sure do. I advertise this system every chance I get. Maybe I should stop. That way I can have a notebook better than others.
