How is the quality of the M1210 screen? I've seen some reviews saying it was poor and had very narrow viewing angle and others that say it is good. Was there some change made or is it hit or miss?

Overall, the chances of you getting a good screen is 75%. This is just a guess, but it's accurate.
The screen is awesome. For me, no light leakage, acceptable viewing angles, good brightness, usable lowest setting, vibrant colors, and dark blacks and bright whites. -
The viewing angle is nothing spectacular, but it is acceptable.
That's really my only complaint. Other than that, the screen is crisp and clear with no light leakage and stuff. -
you really can't expect a 12.1" screen to have great viewing angles.
-
Why not? My friend has a Sony Vaio TX, which is like an 11" LCD, and that has a really good viewing angle.
-
well i guess I've never seen a screen with great viewing angles on an ultraportable.
what is the point of having great viewing angles on an ultraportable? Just wondering why people care so much about it when you're talking about a 12.1" screen. -
You don't even need to take a Sony TX for comparison... most who have used a Dell Inspiron 700m will tell you that it is possible to have great viewing angles & almost no light leakage on a 12.1" screen....

My 10 days old M1210 has a Samsung LCD . It is crisp clear and the viewing angels are good . No light leakage on mine .I think i had luck getting this screen.

my m1210 has the Toshiba LCD and it is horrible. The colors look washed out and viewing angle is very limited. My first m1210 had the Samsung screen which was flawless, however it was replaced due to constant lockups.
I can't stand the Toshiba screen as it is not pleasurable to use the laptop.
too bad. -
BuonaDomenica sorry to hear that . Is there any chance to change the screen?

what do u mean when u say 75% of getting a good screen? aren't they suppose to be the same even with different manufactuerers?

I have the toshiba screen as well. I didnt notice the light leakage untill I read about it on the forums. I guess it would be noticable with black backgrounds or if I was watching a movie and sitting a couple feet away. As far as viewing angles, I don't get the argument at all. It is a 12" notebook. Where aside from right in front of it am I supposed to sit? I am certainly not going to try using it from 5' away and If I were it would be attached to a much larger screen. The colors are fine. I am very happy with it. I had a 12" G4 powerbook and it definitely wasn't anywhere close tp as nice to look at as the 1210 not to mention OSX got old really fast after it's initial "golly gee this is pretty". Vista now has that factor plus you can rip, game, and do all the stuff you shouldn't with a pc and can't on a mac for anywhere close to the same price.

How do you tell the brand of the LCD??? Sorry, can't seem to figure it out.
I don't mind my screen so much except that it is not very bright, even at the highest setting. -

Mind you, I've been through 4 M1210 AUO screens myself & I can tell you all 4 of them varies from each other in terms of quality... -
