    Hi Guys,

I'm hopful someone else will know what my problem is.

It's like the back light increase in brightness for a split second then drop back to normal. The screen is at maximum brightness. It occurs at random.

It's almost like a charge is building then being discharged at random through the back light causing a spike. It's visible at all brightness levels.

hmm, are you noticing any difference in your power management. The only thing i can think of is your laptop is set to a lower setting on battery, and when you have the a/c adapter plugged in, it is not getting a good enough connection (or possibility that your power supply might be loose from the motherboard). This would cause you to switch from ac to battery at random times, but you should see an icon pop up in your taskbar if that is the case.

Does this happen when you are just on battery? Are your brightness controls for battery and ac the same?

I thought that too so I set the AC brightness and Batt brightness the same in the bios and everwhere else. Still seems to happen. I've tried jiggling things, pressing on the case...nothing physical seems to set it off...Dell is going to send another one, hopfully that cures the problem. I'm kinda wondering if this might be wide spread, some people might not even notice.

glad to hear that dell is sending you another one. Another thing is that it might be the connector to your display (which powers the backlight) is loose.

I hope your new one doesn't cause any problems.

Yeah, I hope it solves the problem. I don't think it's the connector because nothing that I do physically to the laptop seems to trigger it and it happens when i'm not touching it.

If anyone's got any ideas let me know!

Take out the battery and see if it still does it.

I'm betting it has to do with some faulty connection with the screen as SG stated - it was probably a workmanship defect.
