I just received my Vista upgrade. I need to help a friend with Vista or I would not consider installing vista. Is the combination of Office 2007 Vista Business and the XPS M1210 working ok or are there problems? I have XP Pro on it now and it works beautifully is Vista a running ok at this time or is waiting a better option?

    Thank You

I have Vista Business and Office 2007. I havent had any major issues. What you really need to look at is the other non microsoft software you want to run and make sure you have compatible revisions. This would include DVD burning software (issues with Nero prior to 7.somethine), DVD player software (couldn't get WinDVD to register after installation so I used PowerDVD). If it is going to be for work you may have to find a work around for remote access. My company had custom login software that I had to figure out how and what it used behind the curtains.

That is a bigger issue even though Dell sent a disk. What software and hardware issues are going to cause slow downs. I was going to make the move to help someone out but now I am a little worried after this. I have some items that will not be a problem. Nero is 7 Ultra and Office 2007 Pro but what about BitDefender 10 or zonealarm 7 things like that. Is Dells media software going to work. That is something I had not thought about. I also heard my Soundblaster software for the sound card was not working the last time I checked.

Zone Alarm 7 definitely won't work (in fact, nothing from ZA works in vista except for the router). I'm not sure about Bitdefender, but you can always check the Vista compatibility thread in the software forum. Link

hehe Thank you I will need to look more into this matter. I need to check outpost also maybe it will work but last I heard they did not have a compatible firewall either with Vista. I need to apologize I posted this in the windows forum also because there were not any answers here I thought maybe that was where I needed to start. I appreciate all the help and apologize for this obvious mistake. Where would be the best place to continue this?
