    Hi all,

This is my first post and would like to say HI! to all.

Just got my M1210 today. I'm still testing all the hardware and so far I think I've a bad DVD-RW. Some of the movie I've put just stuck at the beginning, some of it cannot be open at all and some of it seems to play find for a minute then exit without any error. I get the same result using MediaDirect. I've even install VLC but still the same and came to conclusion that this has nothing to do with software (right?). I've open Event viewer and there's alot of errors saying "The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block" and alot of warning saying "An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during paging operation". Mine is _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A. Is there any test I can run to confirm this before I start calling Dell?

    Thanks.

The drive works normally otherwise? Perhaps deleting the ide drivers will help. Windows will re-install them when re-booted. The drive could be bad as well.

NEC drives while they are really good are also known for their lack of error correction. Check the discs for scratches and make sure they are clean. I've had discs that my desktop NEC drive would choke on but other drives and DVD players would work with just fine but the NEC drive isn't defective either.

But ummm... yea. If the discs are clean and free of scratches otherwise then give Dell a ring. There is a possibility that the drive is defective.
