I've been wanting to get a laptop for school and the M1210 was one that I was seriously considering. However, yesterday I noticed that it is no longer listed on the XPS page. Even the refurbs have disappeared since then.

I'm wondering if anyone happens to know why this is. Could it be that with the Inspirons and Vostros offering similiar (or even better) hardware they felt it no longer had a market? Perhaps there's something new on the horizon?

I need something small, light, but also powerful while offering good battery life. A paradox for sure but the 1210 seemed to be a reasonable balance of these things. The M1330 may be small and powerful but from what I understand the battery life is horrid. Now I guess I'll just have to keep my eye on the VAIO SZ6 series instead.

The M1330 replaced it. So no more M1210's.

It's was priced so low because it was at the end of the line, and I think Dell was clearing out parts.

Would you like to provide evidence to support this claim? I've been doing some pretty hardcore research the past couple weeks and what your saying flies in the face of almost every review I've read.

    PS Thanks, PheonixFix

my sister's m1210 battery life is amazing on a 6 cell battery. i can surf the web and listen to music occasionally for 3-4 hours on the battery.

i am also considering getting the m1210 through the dell outlet during christmas time. they are pretty cheap and i really like the design. i hope there will still be some @_@

edit: waaaaaaah, they are really gone from the dell outlet!! please come back.

The M1210 is a really awesome little machine. I truly wish I hadn't sold mine.

I'm pretty sure you can do the same on 1330 with intel graphics/LED display... with appropriate power management :)

DOn't get me wrong, peeps, I'm sure that 1210 was a little gem, I have 700m and I love it dearly (despite all the troubles it gave me lately ). But isn't it time to move on to better and slightly bigger things? I mean, yeah, 1210 is gone, but do you really need to dwell on its departure? I'm sure 1210 wouldn't want you to do that ;)

The M1330 was just such a disappointment after the M1210. I know most people disagree, but the M1210 was smaller, more attractive, had very similar performance, had a rotating webcam, and had more USB ports. I think it also shipped faster ;).

There are tons of new ones being sold on ebay dirt cheap. That's how I got mine, because it was cheaper and shipped faster than Dell would ship it.

If you do your homework, and get the right seller, there are great deals to be found.

I wouldn't dispute that 1210 is more attractive to YOU, but when I saw it next to a 1330 empty shell in a Dell Kiosk, 1330 was head and shoulders above 1210 in classiness. Just my personal opinion. Rotating webcam/more usb ports is nitpicking, no everyone goes around hooking up notebooks to a bunch of USB devices, and rotating webcam invites trouble in a notebook (another weak spot). Again, just IMHO :) "Similar" perfomance does mean the same performance ;) Finally, lead times were prolly an issue too, when 1210 was just released, pretty sure in a couple of months we'll see Dell ramping up 1330 production. So, all in all, I'd say it's just matter of personal preference b/n 1210 and 1330, and one can hardly call 1330 a dissapointment, 'cause someone else might call 1210 the same :) Note - I didn't even go into the 1330 features, that 1210 didn't have.

That's why I put "I know most people disagree" in my original post ;). It was a disappointment *to me*--no offense intended to the people who are very excited about receiving theirs.

I think the current gen HPs are mostly hideous too, so I guess my fashion sense is lacking. I'm just a girl; what do I know about what is attractive in a laptop? ;)

I always wondered who needs more than 2 USB ports on a laptop. If you need more you should really have a docking station anyways or at the very least a USB hub. Laptops are for on the road and there I has never been a time when I have pluncked it down and needed more than 1 USB port for anything. I would rather have a sleeker design with less ports than a bunch I will never use. Then again my last do all ultra portable didn't even have an optical drive ;)

The nice thing about the USB ports on the m1210 isn't really the quantity, it's the location. Two USB ports reside on either side of the machine, so you can plug in a mouse and not be running into it.

I actually just put my 1330 up for sale and decided to stick with my 1210.

In my opinion, the 1330 looks classier, but the 1210 is built like a tank.

My needs are different than most, my notebook is coming with me on an army deployment, but its weird...after looking over the 1330 I realized how awesome the 1210 is.

Well, 1330 has a USB port on each side, too, pretty cool, considerin I had 2 on one side only with 700m :)

Hey, good luck with the deployment, I wish you not to get in the harm's way... well, to the extent possible.

It's a real shame they discontinued it. My EDD on the M1330 is 9/11 to 9/13. :(

The worst part is that I still have yet to see one in person (every kiosk I call every weekend doesn't haven't them) and I'm still not sure if the price premium is worth it. An M1210 w/a slightly faster CPU and otherwise similar config is much cheaper than the M1330. Before, I really wanted to see the 1420, M1330 and decide between them and the M1210.

It seems people are really rushing to buy these refurbs. Before they sold out their stock of new ones, the refurb store had more of these than I cared to count.

Now there are only 5, higher priced machines.

Theres about 200-300 1210's left I believe. Starts at $949. Comes with 9 cell battery (no option for 6 cell) and no option for web cam too. That's done with. Ships in about a week.

If they have a dummy, I suggest you go and look at it. It's a real shell, just empty :) I did see a dummy a week or so before I got mine, and had to a chance to compare it to a real 1210 side by side. As I already posted, 1330 won in visual looks in my eyes.

I wish they did. None of them have volunteered to tell me that they have one when I call. Of the kiosks that I've visited (I think I was at one last week), they had no dummy/shell of the 1330 either. :(
