I scored a "previous ordered new" M1210 core 2 duo T5600+nvidia 7400 from dell outlet on 10/18, shipped the same day, arrived on 10/23, happy. But I realized I couldn't hear any sound from the laptop speakers. If I plug in a headphone, I can hear sound from it ok. Tried various setting and reinstalled the audio drivers, still same thing. Did I miss something? Does anyone have any idea other than the hardware failure? I called the technical support and they will send someone to fix it, but it will take some days. A little frustrated at this point. Is that because I order it from dell outlet? I feel I am saving money to pay the possibility of extra hustle.
Anyway, just want to share my experience shopping at dell outlet. It is really fun to shop M1210 at dell outlet. An item will last no longer than 5 seconds in inventory, so you need to reflash and reflash, and add to cart quickly when items pop up. It is more exciting than auction in my opinion. One question I have is, is "previous ordered new" newer/better than "certified refurbish?" I feel better to get a "previous ordered new," because it sounds like new. But, I still got a system with bad speakers. Bad luck? Maybe.
From my 3 days test drive on M1210, I will I say I love it. Only thing I need to get used to is the screen size (1280*800) smaller than my old 600m (1400*1050), especially the height (20% shorter). But that's nature for a wide screen I think. I play world of warcraft on it, it is beautiful.
This is my dell outlete purchase, a little disappointed but overall is fine, and for the price I paid, I will take it. Thanks for reading my first post in the forum.

Most likely it is a hardware issue. It might be the speakers are not connected right or something similar, but since you are getting sound from the headphones, I can't imagine it being a software/driver issue.

Thanks Southern Girl. That's what I think, unless there individual hardware switch/volumn control for the speaker. Now just wait for the techniical person coming to fix it.

You might try reinstalling your audio driver. Since you are getting some sound, it most likely isn't an hardware issue. Do you use any extra audio software (like SB Audigy)?
