Does the production pace pretty much pick up once it gets to Kitting? For those of you who have ordered laptops from Dell before, how soon after Kitting could you expect to have your order shipped?

I'd rather have space over speed for the price. Plus I'll upgrade later if it does indeed suck.

Also, the 100gig 5400 still has an 8meg buffer, so it should be alright :)

Slower at loading only. Not an issue in my eyes, plus I'll get better battery life, which I'll need.

Like I said, if I do end up hating it (can't see that as my other laptop has a 5400 and aside from the processor, that one is fine), I'll get one off NewEgg.

I ordered on the morning of May 31 (Wednesday). It got into Production and was in first 3 stages of production (Kitting, Build, Testing) for about 2 days. The Kitting took about a day, the Build was really fast, and then it stuck on Testing for about a day. It was in boxing by Saturday morning, and it just changed to shipped this morning (Wednesday, June 7). I would say the first 3 steps take about 2-3 days, and Boxing takes about 3 days. Could depend on the parts because I didn't order the AV package.

Does the 1210 have gigabit ethernet? I can't find anything on Dell's worthless site that has the specs.

Go to service, look up the owners manual, and check the Tech Specs on everything. I have it on my desktop at home, but I am at work or else I'd just give it a glance for ya.

Nope...sorry, but no gigabit on the 1210 or any of the Inspirons for that matter. I think in may be offered on a few of the Latitude & Precision series though.

The 1710 DOES have Gigabit ethernet, though. I wasn't sure if you were grouping the XPS series in with the Inspirons.

I have to say, posting from a 1210, that the screen is perfect for me.

Good brightness, no bleed, crisp edges, I love this screen!
