Hi,
because of multiple reasons, I'm about to upgrade my I6400 for a M1210 'open box'.
I'm just a little affraid about the 12'. How do you guys find it? It's not to small? Can you still work like on 2 apps a the same time (like half screen 'word' and the other half 'explorer'.
I've some review that the black lid always gets covered up with fingerprints. Can you get like a stick on carbon fiber cover or something like this?

Native resolution of M1210 is 1280x800, which is same as the Inspiron 6400 with WXGA screen. Therefore if you already have a WXGA then the amount of information you see on the screen is same, but smaller. However if you are already using two apps open at the same time, then I'm guessing you are having a WXSGA+ screen, in that case you'll find the M1210 too small to work with two windows. However, for one window at a time the 1280x800 12" screen is good enough.
Go to a PC shop and look at a 12" notebook and see how it look and feels. Because you can't get an exact idea about the screen by reading specifications or by asking others. You'll have to see it for your self. -
Yes I got WSXGA,
I've just changed the resolution from 1680x1050 to 1280x800 ans damn, it's really foogy. Not crispy. Not enough information on screen...
hummmm. That put a doubt in my mind. -
If I hook up the M1210 to an external 22' for example, does the grafic card allow to provide a higher resolution on another display? If so, what's the highest ?
-
Yes. The standard Intel GMA allows up to 1920 x 1200, which is probably the res of the 22" one. The highest on the optional nVidia Go7400 is likely 2560 x 1600, or something insane like that. You would need to check the actual specs, I don't know off the top of my head.
The screen looks foggy when set to WXGA because its not native resolution. Laptops don't scale screen res as good as desktop monitors, I have found. Also, WSXGA on a 15.4" screen will likely be less sharp than the 12" WXGA, so you are in for a loss of screen real estate, but not sharpness, or 'crispiness' as you put it. -
As Vivek has already pointed out, dont worry about the blurriness of the image because all non-native resolutions in LCDs look like that. 1280x800 in M1210 will be as sharp as 1680x1050 in your i6400. I couldn't find the exact maximum external resolution it supports but it should be pretty high, high enough to even comfortably use a 20" monitor.

Until there's a way to use DVI with an M1210 and an external Dell big screen monitor, I'm not interested. VGA is so yesterday.
