Ive got the 60gb 7200 drive in my m1210, and while the performance is great...im running out of space.

Has anyone upgraded their hard drive? If so, im assuming itll be plug and play?
Anything to look for in model? brand?

Then on the install...once I turn the computer on...whats next? Ive done OS installs before...but no idea where to start with a new drive put in a notebook...thx.

You'll need to reinstall the OS when you get your new SATA drive. Make sure your new hard drive is a SATA one, or you won't be able to install it in the m1210. It is 'plug and play' as you note...

great, so once i put the new one in, what should I expect the first step to be? IN other words, what would I see on the screen when i first boot up with the new drive in there...

any preference on hitachi or seagate?

Both are fine, imo. Either make a copy of your current HD or you'll need the windows install cd, because you won't see much.

any advice on how to make a direct HD copy?
I have a 2.5" drive enclose that connects to the USB2 port...can I toss the new 7200 drive in there, then do something to copy everything I have on my current (in my m1210 now working) drive?

Then, just put the new drive from the enclosed into the m1210..voila it should boot up?

    thanks
actually, just thought about it, i dont think the enclosure will take sata drives.

you might want to look into getting Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost. You can make an Image of your old hard drive onto DVD's, External HD or over the Network. Then just re-image onto the new drive.

My personal preference is Acronis True Image is it easily backs up over the network into a shared folder on another computer.
