1GB of Ram with Vista. How does it run? Im just really worried about it being really slow. But I just plan on running simple tasks like IE and Word. I need it to at least be capable of doing that until I can get more memory.

I remember mine working just fine with 1GB RAM. I upgraded to 2GB a month ago and it's great.

You might want to upgrade to 2GB since the 7400 GPU uses 192MB of the system RAM.

Vista is full of bugs anyways, so staying w/ XP is your option right now

Dell sends a Vista recovery disk though right? So if I do switch to XP I can always go back when I get the memory.

I recommend you upgrade to 4GB. Or as much as you could afford. 1GB for vista is a joke. 2Gb is weak sauce. 3GB is alright, since you have the graphics card. 4Gb is your best bet. Just remember, Vista is ram hungry.

Fry's online store sells Patriot 2 gb 1 stick for 89 bucks. I got 4gb (2x2) for less than $200!

Dell should send you the vista recovery disk. If you asked me, XP suxs. Just like all previous versions of windows.

Well I might end up doin the xp thing cause although RAM is cheap I am BROKE lol. But this has def. been the most expensive thing I have purchased so I am kinda nervous, and trying to get as much info as possible.

I so want to go back to xp, as for vista 1gig works fine as long as its not running to many memory hogging applications. Gaming also hurts on 1gig. Try getting xp with 1gig & u wud be better off.

I don't think Vista and 1gb will run well together, unless you can manage your system resources really well, like turning off all the eye candies and disabling useless hidden start up programs. I do that with XP and I'm running fine on 1gb, on normal usage I usually have 500-700mb available memory (shown in Task Manager's performance tab).

I was going to upgrade to 2gb but I didn't because I couldn't find anybody to buy my two sticks of 512mb dual channel 667 that came with my m1210, and after attempting to run Test Drive Unlimited on my m1210 I seriously doubt upgrading to 2gb will make any difference. If it's an older game I don't think I'll need 2gb anyway. Well I won't be switching to Vista anytime soon I guess I'll keep it the way it is for the time being.
