Ive connected my M1330 to my 26" HDTV via HDMI.

Everything works fine and the image is displayed fine etc. The higher resolutions are available for me to choose. However, no matter which resolution I choose - even 1200x800, the images goes off all edges of the screen. With all other systems Ive used on this TV via VGA etc, the image is resized perfectly on the screen.

My XBox 360 also connects via HDMI, and thats also sized up perfectly.

Whats making my M1330 display the picture off of the edges of the screen - Im talking about an inch on each side of the screen.....

    Thanks in advance

Use the AutoSet on your ext. monitor. It will just automatically fit it into the screen. I have a Acer eAuto button on my monitor. You could find one i yours too.

Its not an external monitor, its a HDTV. I'll see if I can find anything that does it anyway, but its usually automatic with every other system Ive attached to the TV....

I have a similar problem when connecting my M1330 with my BenQ FP241W monitor via HDMI. Seems that the BenQ "insists" on treating the source as 16:9 instead of 16:10... :-(

Still, best to check the basics before giving up:

As a general rule, there are two possible methods to match / interpolate the source to the target - either via HW (your TV/ Monitor) or SW (nVidia drivers).

As a 2nd general rule, there are three options - leave source "as is", "stretch to fit" and "expand while keeping aspect ratio".

You can quickly try tweaking the nVidia drivers and/or checking your HDTV's user guide or OSD for similar HW options.

Good luck & please lets us know how it goes. Btw, I noted a M1730 in your sig: no problems with that one...?

You need to find what the native resoultion of your HDTV is. It could be
1024x768 (yes it is not a widescreen res, but alot of companies stretch the pixels), or 1366x768 (which is a little more common). If you do not that the option you need, you can create a custom resolution using nvidia control panel.

The TV is 720p, so Im assuming its 1366x768, which is the resolution for 720p.

That resolution isnt available to me through the laptop, when connected to the TV. It recommends I use 1200x700. Ive also tried 1440x900 as well. On both accounts the image goes off all 4 sides of the screen but about an inch. The image also doesnt look as sharp as it should.

How would I create a custom resolution??
    Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the image format on the TV? Try Full Screen, Spectacle and 16:9, all from the TV's remote control. ;)

Well you are wrong in assuming that 720p means 1366x768 on all TV's :) Because the true resolution of 720p would be 1280x720.

Look at the manual of your TV and find what the native resolution is. Have you tried 1024x768? What is the Make/Model of your TV?

Well that is PROBABLY why you are having overscan issues. In Nvidia Control Panel, there should be a option for "Manage Custom Resolution". There is even a option for "Treat as HDTV". Anyways, you do need to create a resolution for 1366x768.

After a reformat, I am having the same issue. Everything worked fine prior to the reformat but now I cannot figure out why this is happening. I am using two separate HDTVs, both of which worked fine prior to this.

The thing that I have noticed is difference after the reformat is that the windows presentation settings thing shows up now whereas it didn't before when everything worked fine.

What is even more strange is that I just tried it thru VGA and it worked perfectly. The entire display showed up on the TV and I was even able to create a custom resolution of 1366 x 768 that showed up pretty nicely. I then went back to HDMI and did was not able to get that picture.

Maybe it's a different video driver version.

It definitely is a different version as I am running 32 bit now whereas I was running 64 bit before. However, this is still something that should work on 32 bit, right? I am using the latest driver from dell's website. Should I try out a third party driver like one from laptopvideo2go or something?

Each of the drivers I have downloaded from laptopvideo2go has informed me that it cannot find any compatible hardware in my system. I am now officially frustrated as the HDMI port is one of my favorite features on the laptop.

OK....I have solved this issue for now. I hope this helps you too ifti. I uninstalled the video driver in device manager. Then, Windows installed it as a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. After that, I restarted windows and went into Device Manager. Then, I opened display adapters and clicked NVidia Geforce 8400M GS and then right-clicked and clicked update driver software. Then Windows went and searched online and installed its own driver. Using this driver after 2 (curious, I know) restarts, I was able to get the HDMI working at the correct resolution on both of my HDTVs. Good luck, ifti.

Cheers mate, I may give that a try at some point. Using HDMI isnt a major issue for me, since i have a bigger screen on my M1730 for any work that requires more screen space etc - but it would sure be nice to have the function working properly on my M1330 though.
I'll try it out and report back ;)
