Thats not good, get a replacement.

How have you been using the battery? only small discharges or lots of deep discharges/recharges?

I been using it with deep discharges/recharges. I charged it about 15 times so far. From 20% - 100%.

With li-ion batteries you shouldnt discharge more than you have to, deep cycles will shorten the lifetime of the battery. However, it shouldnt hit 8% in two weeks no matter. my Aopen 1557 retained 80% of original battery capacity after two years of heavy use...

Did it work fine the first time? because you CAN NOT use the battery before it has fully charged the first time or it will develop a battery memory and the degradation will be severe.
Nevertheless, get a replacement, get mad at Dell, it's obviously their fault, lolz, but yea, warranty should prob help you

I just tried twice but they won't replace it. Should I talk with customer care about returning the system then? Like I'm getting pretty pissed they won't fix the problem because this is my 2nd replacement system.... and everything is fine but the battery.

Just curious....how did you measure the battery wear? The programs used to test this are notoriously flawed. I've tried it on a brand new battery and it said about 6% wear but battery life was phenomenal. Then on a battery that was 4 years old and barely lasting an hour, it showed zero wear...

I can understand Dell's resistance to replace the battery based on such unreliable and likely usual results from inaccurate wear measures.

    Lion? no.

get mad at dell? come on.

    terrible advice.

call dell, explain the issue, be nice, and get a new battery. No need to follow this guys advice at all.

ohhh, yea, the battery thing isn't a good measurement
some guy who was testing the Asus Eee PC had the program say the battery was about to die and that it had a lot of wear when in fact it lasted for another hour and 45 minutes, as painstaking as it is, you have to do a test w/ a stopwatch or something

well not always, sometimes you ahve to be agressive to get them to actually listen to you, being nice to computer companies never got me anything in the past, they keep going "We're sorry sir, but we can not [insert thing here]"
Then i call back a bit later and im straightforward saying that it's under warranty and i should get X item or some support or something and I make my position clear, and they almost instantly comply
but, as he said, do try to be nice first, if that doesnt work, than by all means...be...well, mean

if you have an actual problem, 9 out of 10 times, you get help with it.

yelling at someone on the phone, for something as small as the OP, is simply gonna come back to you eventually.

Yes, i have had to "slightly" raise my voice with dell reps, sure, we all have. But i never did that to begin with, ever.

8% wear level after two weeks isnt a "small" issue, its a warning sign that the battery is faulty.

and what is he using to measure the battery life, what software?

a showing of 8% could simply mean a warning in software choices as well.

8% in two weeks is not a good sign. Im sure he can just log into dell chat, and have a new one shipped overnight in 5min.
