A Dell representative has stated that with A04 revision Motherboard, the Video Card Memory is DDR3 and a TPM Chip is included in systems with Biometric Fingerprint Reader.

    1. Is the 128MB Memory in NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS DDR2 or DDR3?
    2. Does the A04 revision Motherboard have a TPM Chip?
    3. Can Biometric Fingerprint Reader work without a TPM Chip?

    1. As far as I know, it was DDR3.

    2. Didn't you just state that the mobo has the TPM?

    3. No, you don't need TPM for finger print to work. My M90 has TPM chip, and only difference I noticed was you can encrypt the harddrive using vista ultimate which takes awhile to do/I won't do anyways.

Thanks for your quick response. I didn't state that but a Dell representative to our office collegaues. Earlier revisions of the M1330 Motherboard do not have a TPM Chip. A04 Revision Motherboard owners should tell us if they have a TPM Chip or not.

They can check it via bios. As far as I know, you can actually use it only if you have vista ultimate.

    1. The RAM on the 8400GS is DDR3

    2. TPM = useless
Unless you use your system for business and need the extra security of bitlocker or some other software like it.....

It's pretty easy to check if you have TPM on A04 - just check if you see any TPM on bios.

I asked a XPS chatline about the TPM chip, and they said no btw. Only change made was the cpu whine fix.

    1. gpu is always ddr3
    2. nope there isn't any TPM shown in the bios.
    3. yes, finger print reader work like charm as always!

i didn't notice any significant changes / performance / batery life in the system. only changes is to help to get rid of those irritating whine..guess i'm the lucky one that mobo replacement helps..good luck to you guys. cheers

Here's what they told to our IT Purchase Manager:

    XPS M1330 from:
Home & Home Office: does not have a TPM Chip
Small & Medium Business or Member Purchase: has a TPM Chip

I don't believe that a TPM Chip will be included for business customers. Anyways, I will let you know, once our office gets the system.

Mine was bought from EPP, and has no TPM.

I don't believe any XPS had TPM installed in any models in the past.

Only business class systems had it in the past.

Which doesn't work! I have an A04 mobo, and it whines...until I used RMClock to disable C4.

Can you check the bios and see if you have TPM chip installed?

The UPEK fingerprint reader has some of the features of a TPM - including (I believe) secure storage of the fingerprint hashes... but it is not as good as having a full TPM.
