I noticed that the M1330 does not come with a Optical port. Is this notebook capable digital output (SPDIF)? If so, what would I need to purchase in order to connect this to my Logitech z5450/z5500 speakers?

    Thanks in advanced

There is a 7-pin Svideo port on the M1330.... A 7-pin Svideo to 4-pin Svideo w Composite/Componet and SPDIF adapter is available from DELL.... This can be used to output the SPDIF digital audio signal...

Oops I guess I was wrong there then.... The M1710 has S-Video and so I thought the M1330 also had it.... Hmm then I do not know how to output Digital Sound.... May be you can use the HDMI to do that since it can carry both digital audio as well as video..... I do not know if some adapter of any sort exists for that....

The HDMI works indeed for both HD video and audio.
however my amp does not have HDMI in, hence i use HDMI only for video and need a 2nd digital out.

There re enough USB dongles which facilitate this, would i would prefer to stick with something simple without additional investments
