I'm using a Sandisk Extreme III 4gb SD card in the Card Reader with Readyboost and I've just noticed the card sits quite loose in the reader slot.
Is this usual? Has any one else noticed this? Or do I have a dodgy card reader?

I believe the card should stick out a little in use. I'm not sure if its supposed to be loose though.

How is ready boost btw? HOw much RAM do you have installed?

Yeah, the card does stick out a little bit (a couple of millimeters) - slightly annoying - but not too bad.

Readyboost seems to help a little bit, programs load a little bit faster - but it maybe just in my head, I haven't tested it properly.

Anybody else notice that SD cards sits loose in the reader?

P.S. I have 2gb of RAM, but am thinking about upgrading to 4GB to make vista a little bit snappier!

Once I get mines (might be tommorow) I'll tell you if mines sticks out too.

Did you do a clean install of vista? I'm not sure if 4gb will help you A LOT. It might help somewhat in gaming and such, but for regular usage, I don't think its necessary.
It might be better to just use a program like CCLeaner and clean some registry stuff, or defrag, or change performance settings

Sorry to bring up this topic, but I have noticed this as well. Is the card supposed to hang loosely from the slot?

Isn't it supposed to stick out so that it's easy to remove? If it fit flush wouldn't you need fingernails to remove it? I can see that being annoying for someone who wants to leave the SD in all the time, but I think it's designed more for popping in your camera's SD for a few minutes.

I thought it would click in and stay there until you press on it and click out. That's how the dummy card works..

is the dummy card the same size/shape as the SD?

The dummy card is not as long, but the funny thing I realized is that the real SD card actually clicks in but it just doesn't stay in. I can insert it again and it will click again, but that will eject the card (it pushes it farther out).

For what it's worth, my SD cards fit pretty snug in the slot, and as everyone has noted, they do stick out about 2mm. That may have been by design, since I don't know about anyone else, but I think the short dummy card is a little tough to get out.
