Just started spec'ing out the new M1330. Wow, what a machine!

    - 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    - 8400m GS 128MB
    - 13" 1280x800 Screen
    - 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM
    - 160GB 5400RPM HDD
    - 9 WHr Battery

Under $2000! If only they could squeak in an 8600m GS then it would be the perfect mobile PC.

But either way, if I didn't need the extra GPU oomph I might have opted for this machine instead!

i got my SZ660 with these specs for $1500....

    t7500 2.2ghz
    2gb ddr2 667mhz
    160gb 5400rpm with 256flash hybrid
    8400m gs / x3100 hybrid
    integrated spring wwan

just off ebay, couldnt find any m1330 with those specs near $1500 plus the option to turn off the video card is quite nice for battery life and heat.

have owned both and personally think the sz is a better machine - check ebay, the m1330 will be cheaper than 2k with those specs

lol very true ;) but it is a nice looking laptop! i hated sony b4 this because of their damn prices just for there brand name but i when saw the deal on ebay and because it was a display model behind a glass (therefore no one used it) no one wanted to bid on it - so i added a 2 year accidental and not a scratch on it and love this thing

but i mainly like it because of the weight and the battery. which many other laptops offer just as much or more im sure....lovely sony

That's the same first impression most people get... Until they experience Dell CS and the high-defects rate.

yah i hear sony sucks at customer service and ive never had a problem with dell in the past. one reason i didnt want to get this sz at first was cuz of their wrranty

but found the warranty package on another site for $70 less then sony charged ($130 vs $200) for 2 year accidental and the fact that it has Onsite sounds kind of cool

You only hear about the negative CS experiences here. How many positive transactions happen in a day with Dell that you don't hear about? Compare that to the negatives and I'm sure it's no worse than another other company.

I dunno. Dell do make some good products, but my history with them is that it takes an exchange or two to get the quality product you're expecting. I say that after ordering two Dell monitors and a laptop in the last few years. But in the end, the product it's supposed to be is definitely quality.

It has to do with heat issues.

Heat issues? They put an 8600m GT in the 15" Inspiron 1520 and Vostro 1500. How is the XPS any different? I thought XPS was supposed to be their performance brand anyways.

The XPS M1530 is way thinner than the Inspiron/Vostro... so less space for the heat to dissipate.

IMO XPS is their premium brand; not performance in all cases (although certain models such as the M1730 are more performance-oriented).

You absolutely can't compare the framework design of either the Inspiron or Vostro to that of an XPS. One has to have held one in their hands to know. An XPS is very....tight...in comparison to most any other laptop.

The perfect example of this is the stopping of the 2.4Ghz in the m1330; it was due to the heat created.

Sony's service trully blows, but their products I've owned usually lasted quite awhile also.

I've owned 2 Sony laptops - both ultra portable laptops - cost me close to 2300 bucks each time at circuitcity - one had great bettery life, and lovely 10" screen... sold it for 500 bucks after 3 yrs of use to buy my M1330 lol.

Oh I forgot to mention Sony is KING of bloatwares.

yah didnt even go to windows when i bought it - immediately popped in the disk to do a clean install because i knew they put on alot of crap.

i dont know much about sony service but sicne i just got onsite service, can it really be that bad because they come to my house to fix it? i mean, they could take a while to get there but once they get there, it would be no more than 1 day/few hours right?

I had technical problems with 2 sony laptops. Usual Sony's solution was to format lol. I was always left with feeling like "why the hell did I call you guys again?" Then googled, found the solutions myself lol.

BTW the format solution took waaay after about 40 min average wait time on the phone.
