Hey guys,
I was wondering is it safe to delete the Recovery partition that comes with the m1330? If so, how do I do it without installing additional programs like Partition Magic. I tried using computer/disk management, but won't let me do it.
Also, I downloaded drivers for GeForce 8400M GS from laptopvideo2go.com (Forceware 163.44). How do I install these? Everytime I try to install, it says Hardware not compatible or something like that.
Thanks

Yes its safe to delete your recovery installation if you want to run a clean installation.
Re...your drivers... You may have downloaded the wrong ones. Remember the OS and 32/64 bit you are using gets set on your left...

yeah i deleted mine just have media direct and C partition now

The recovery partition allow you to get back to the original condition pronto. Restoring the image is always faster than running a clean install.
But if you are thinking of backing up the recovery partition, you're out of luck. I'm running Vista Home premium. A few files are locked. My query posed to Dell really pissed me off. They told me that it's by design that we, the users are not supposed to be able to copy the recovery partition. This really sux. -
I ended up deleting both my recovery and media direct partitions to have one large partition. Reinstalling Vista and the drivers was very easy compared to other Dell's I have had. Flamenko's thread is an excellent resource for step by step instructions... -
Its ok to delete all the partitions specially if you really want to have a clean reinstall of your system. You can delete the media center partition if you dont need the media direct option that dell have offered you. If you want to check for the drivers for your system you can also go this site. http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&ServiceTag=&SystemID=XPS_M1330&os=WLH&osl=EN
That will be a complete list of available driver for your system. -
I'm confused, my M1330 came with a set of disks, 1 says Operating System, another says Applications and so on... Are these the restore disks?
If I deleted my recovery partition and I wanted to format and start over one day, I could just use the disks that came with the system no? -
To format and start over one day, yes, you would boot to the operating system dvd. -
I deleted the Recovery partition using the built-in disk manager in Vista, but for some reason it won't allow me to extend C: so I can reclaim that 10GB of space.
Is there any way around this? Something I'm missing?
