Okay. So I had my motherboard replaced last week to try and fix the CPU whine - this didn't work but according to Dell that's how the laptop is supposed to function so fair do's.

Now, however, when I plug my laptop into my sound system (into the Auxiliary on the amplifier) I get these weird crackling sounds and also the CPU whine is now amplified through the speakers!! I can't hear it through headphones when they are plugged in so it's not the port, but obviously the amplifier is just amplifying all these weird electronic sounds which is very very annoying since before the motherboard was switched out it was totl silence when I plugged it in!

Can anyone advise me on what to do, I'm getting very frustrated with this laptop. Thank you.

Sounds like your Mic is on and you are getting feedback (explains why not W/headphones. Go into sound properties and mute or turn Mic volume down.
