M1330 2gb of ram will be enough to run Window vista?

this is one thing that bothers me cuz iam ordering it tmr . so iam not too sure if i should stick with ultimate with 2gb of ram

and if i get 1 gb of ram would it be cheaper to get notebook ram somewhere else ? cuz i save 100 if i only get 1 gb of ram instead of 2

You can get 1GB of RAM and run Vista perfectly fine, but 1.5GB or more is recommended (by me). However, in order to maintain dual channel - I'd suggest 2GB (2 x 1GB).

I have 2GB of RAM in my E1505 and I currently have Trillian Astra (Alpha product, so not very light on resources to begin with), Firefox 3 (Alpha, again), IE7, Thunderbird (Alpha, again), Steam, Winamp, Kaspersky Internet Security (Beta), and a few other background applications and I'm only using 1100MB/2048MB of my RAM ;)

Why can't you just discard the memory installed - still a lot cheaper :)

I also suggest buying 2x512 from Dell. Then you should buy 1x 2GB stick. Why? Cause you said you use Photoshop, and that program uses as much RAM as you can afford/put in. Sometime down the road you can put in another 2GB.

Ultimate doesn't use up any more ram on my install. If people wanted to know how to make their computer faster, it isn't always about having more hardware. A lot has to do on how you configure your software. If you run XP or Vista stock, then you're not running it efficiently. Specifically, you need to learn how to disable unnecessary services.

but the thing is if i get 1 gb which means 2 x 512 mb i only sve 100 max

How much is a 1x 1 gb Sodimm or 1 x 2 gb sodimm cost. you think with the amount i save i can get that ?

yea i use photoshop , but mostly i open up alot application like firefox with 20 tabs, msn live , window media player etc etc. Photoshop is only when do my school work which is not often.

so what are some unecessary service come with dell you recommand to turn off. ? Mcafee?

So order it with 1GB and purchase 2 x 2GB and replace the 1Gb with that two chips.

You can always revert to the 1GB if you have issues and a dell engineer has to call .

Exe, I am curious on how I would go about disabiling unnecessary services. I recently purchased a Lenovo T60 (I know, wrong forum) with Window Vista Home Premium edition. I have noticed that it is already running 90 processes. How can I cut down on that?

2gb of RAM is ideal for running vista steadily with Aeros.

A little off-topic but since someone asked. Here's a sorta guide to streamlining Vista installation. I didn't try it as I have yet to install Vista, but you can check it out. He has a nice laundry list of the Vista services and comments on whether you should disable them. If someone got a better guide, please post a link! :)
