According to the dell site it is: "Your Primary Battery selection does not support your Video Card selection. Please make changes to one of these selections."

I never knew that this was a restriction until now...

its a recent development because the 4 cell seem to display really terrible battery life resulting in a lot of complaint hence they took out the option when getting the 8400gs

Hrm, my order's still going through with the 4/9 cell combo along with the 8400M GS. I definitely don't want a 9/9 cell combo. The whole reason was to get a flush-fitting one and one for high capacity. I wanted the 6/9 combo, but they couldn't do it.

Is my order going to inexplicably die on the production line because of this?

Prob not...its the 4 cell issue not 6. Im much the same. On arrival I will prob contact XPS support and state that I would rather the 6 than extra 9. They will just send me a six Im sure and i will return the 9.

Yeah, exactly. I've got the 4/9 cell on order right now. The two times I've called in since, they haven't given me any grief over it. The 4 cell isn't even listed on the Dell Canada site anymore...

i have the 4/9 and i have the 8400 i hope they don't send me 2 9s cause the whole reason was to get the smaller battery so i could have the flush look

A 6 and 9 wouldn't be bad though. I wonder if they will upgrade those of us with 4 & 9 configurations in process.

I called this morning and the person said.. oh your order is valid. I don't see what you are talking about.

So I walked her through the configurator. Her response was to wait until I got the unit since it was still a "valid" config when I ordered it and I shouldn't worry about the order being canceled and then call in when I get the order and have em swap the 4cell for a 6cell.

Which is better anyways cause I wanted a 6+9 combo but there was no such thing when I purchased and I didn't want a 9+9.

So... I should just call a CSR and tell them I want to switch my 4 cell for a 6 cell?

I'd wait til you get the notebook. I am afraid to let them muck up the order any.

Best idea is probably to wait until you get the laptop in hand, call up XPS support and tell them the 4 cell is useless ( ;)) and since the site doesn't even list them as compatible, you require the 6 cell. It'll probably be a straight exchange.

Hopefully XPS support is more helpful than the Dell CSR's that I've dealt with... LOL... thats not asking too much either.

Hopefully they will upgrade the battery combo to the 6 and 9 cell.

Yeah, quite weird! When I ordered very recently via Dell via the discount page they provide people at my company, there was no warning about the 4 cell batt w/the Nvidia graphics, so I ordered a 4 + 9 cell IIRC.

When I went to a Dell kiosk and tried placing an order, it did warn me about the 4 cell being "incompatible". So, I made that order a 9 + 9 and canceled the 1st order (kiosk had a coupon that brought the price down).
