Hi all,
What brand of CCFL screens for the M1330 that you are happy with?
Originally, I had the Samsung (code SEC5441) and I got an exchange for a new laptop with LG (code LPL0000).
I thought I did not like the Samsung, but I do not like the LG more.
The Samsung, was clear but washed out or overexposed at the bottom and you have to keep adjusting the screen for best view. The LG was more so.
The Samsung color is white, compared to the LG which has a tent of blue.
My other issues with the first laptop with Samsung was heat issues and battery. The second seem to be as hot.
The only things that I like about the second laptop with LG is that it had the a little faster CPU and a little better built.
I am not sure which one to keep, as I have both with me now.
Originally when I talked to Tech support, they promised to send me the LED backlit screen at my request, but they sent an even exchange.
They promised me to only pay the difference of $150 and now I have to return one for a refund and start over by ordering a new one.
Yesterday, I spent over 3 hours on the phone given the run around without any result. After waiting 30 minutes and talking to someone who put me on hold for another 10 minutes and then she hangup on me.
I tried to talk to a supervisor in customer services and they promised me to connect it me right away but I was connected back to the main line back to long waiting que.
I tried e-mail, no answer. I tried to call the rep with extention number, I just leave a message and he does not call back.
Sorry for the rant and getting off the subject, but I wanted to vent about the lack of customer service.
Thanks for listening.

I have a LPL0000, and Im satisfied with it. I guess if you look hard enough, you can find something wrong with every screen
-
Good for you if you are satisfied with your LCD. -
Would be nice with pictures of all the screens to see the difference...
-
How do you tell what screen you have?
-
Hm...different opinion from me entirely...
You say the LG has a tint of blue...yes it does, a very slight tint of blue. But the Samsung has an even greater tint of yellow. The whites on the LG actually looked whiter to me overall. The screen also gets brighter. In terms of color reproduction, I thoght the LG was every so slightly better.
the only down point is there's a more notable backlight leakage due to it being a brighter unit.
The general consensus has always been LG > Samsung. And I believe this case is also true. But to each our own. -
i have had two ccfl screens side by side one was the LG, the LG sucks compared to the other one, which i just sent back because of other problems. the colors are off on the LG, the blue tint is annoying and it doesn't seem as bright. I don't know what the other screen was, i couldn't figure it out by the configuration information i got from dell. maybe it was the samsung? here is the configuration info from the good screen,
1 MR079 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 13.3 WXGA, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, SECONDARY..., V2.
What ever screen that was, it seemed to have very true whites, didn't seem to be any tinting, but maybe an unnoticeable amount of yellow, no where near as yellow as a MBP, the viewing angles weren't that great though... -
You must have the samsung screen.
I have the LG and it's:
UN864 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 13.3 WXGA, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, LGP, V2
Interesting that you two think the other way. I thought the yellow tint looked like wasted out stain and bothered me. The screen had less backlighting issues but was darker because of it.
You can check by going to properties>device manager>display>details>hardware id -
i don't know if it was samsung, and the image wasn't washed out, and it was brighter then the LG, side by side the LG hurt to look at. and compared to my folks hp dv6500 the m1330 with the non LG screen had much better whites and brighter, it was a pleasure to look at... anyone with the samsung have the same LCD configuration information as me?
1 MR079 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 13.3 WXGA, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, SECONDARY..., V2.
I don't have the comp anymore so i can't figure anything else out... -
I have an "AUO1424" apparently. What make is that, and where does it feature in the 'rankings'?
-
It's AU Optronics... and I don't know, what do you think of it?
-
Seems OK, don't have anything to compare it to apart from old matte lappy screens.
-
i still have no idea on where to look to see what lcd i have. however, images are clear and not grainy at all. i'm impress by the color as well.
someone, tell me how to find out what lcd i have....please -
In the 'search' bar when you press start type "device manager" and click on the thing which appears with the same name.
Goto "monitors" and click the plus next to it, then right click on "generic plug and play" or whatever yours is and go to properties.
Click the "details" tab at the top, then select "Hardware IDs" from the drop-down menu. -
I had an AUO in the refurbished M1330 that I returned last week.
It was clear but definitely yellowish. -
How did you guys get Dell to send out a different mfr of panel? I spoke with a customer service nub at dell and he said the only option was for LED or the tube. I asked if they had a manufacturers option and he said no. I asked to have an exchange notebook sent out and one rep said sure the other rep said whats the point as it will be identical.

Just got my laptop, the m1330, right away installed xp, and checked the screen, as the dell website said, i got an AUO1424 screen, although lots of reviews say it’s a bad screen the worst there is, im really happy with it.
the colors are vivid the brightness is even a bit too much at the max level...there is no yellowish or blue, the screen shows the real colors...I checked how it displays a white screen, and its shows it white as a sheet! dell were right AUO really did improve their screen, I wanted to write here (I’ll add some pic) that if someone here will get the AUO don’t be bummed, see it first, the screen is really beautiful.
I’ve taken some pic, my camera made some lines over the screen and did the pic a bit grayish, it’s really not even close to gray... really wonderful colorsI’m happy with it.

The M1330 I received yesterday also has an AUO 1424.
On the positive side, it has no grain to speak of and can get fairly bright.
On the negative side, it has creamy yellowish whites and blues tend to be greenish.
One thing that is odd is that the colors actually look better when I tilt the screen slightly backward. If I look at the screen straight on, the colors start to wash out and invert. This is the first time I've seen a laptop screen that was like that.
I really wish Dell had sent me an LG screen that has the "bluish" whites. Text is clear, but the yellowish tint is very hard on my eyes. -
Hamm that not my case, the screen is bright and white, i don’t feel any yellowish, i would if it had any (i have very sensitive eyes) but truly the screen is wonderful, it doesn’t hurt my eyes even if i look at it for hours
and the problem you have...its really weird my screen is very white and bright and i don’t have to tilt it to get a better quality.
of course wish i could get the LG 2, but I’m very happy with the AUO as well.
