    Hey all,

Ive been reading some threads, and have found some interesting points raised about the cpu whine on the m1330.

Im not sure if i have the cpu whine. When i scroll down, the whine stops. when i stop scrolling, the whine starts up again. It happens when im on high performance or power saver. There is no noise under the touchpad, just the bottom right of the laptop near the fingerprint reader/express card.

Can someone tell me if this is the cpu whine, and possible solutions to fix it?

    Thanks,

    Shonak

See i dont think this is the cpu whine...

This noise is coming from the corner of the pc, near the express card.

The noise stops when i scroll!

I remember in another thread someone saying that this is another type of whine...

Does anyone actually have a whine coming from underneath the core 2 duo sticker?

Its not the CPU whine and RMClock wont solve it. Maybe your listenning too hard if your not really sure if you got it or not. Give your system a few weeks and see if it works itself out..if not and it really bugs you, contact Dell.

The CPU whine is very obvious (sounds like Morse code) and located at the CPU

turns out rmclock did sort it out.... one thing: do i have popup/popdown enabled or disabled? What is it? When i uncheck it, my system stalls, and i have to take the battery out. Is this normal?!

I have the same issue with RMClock, it always freezes up my system. Is there a way to make RMClock work better?

so far only disabling C4 makes my m1330 freez right away. The popup/popdown seems to work. The whine isn't totally gone, but its at much more tolerable level

I've tried all the other options like enabling Bluetooth and installing the new bios. This is the third m1330 I've had with the whine (all the others I returned and got refunded, then ordered another system with different specs), and the RMclock seems to be the only "solution", even though it doesn't totally solve the problem.

Oh-well, anybody else have more ideas? maybe some people just have more sensitive hearing then others.

Nope I spoke to some Irish dude who works for Dell tech support and he said it was to do with the CPU switching power states and that "...unfortunately, some people are more susceptable to the noise than others..." and that "...unfortunately, the laptop is operating as designed..." so there's nothing they can do about it.

Does anyone know how easy it is to return a laptop to Dell? (I've had mine for about 4 months now so I have a feeling it will be too late).

    Stole/Bong:

I have lots of recommendations: CALL DELL, CALL DELL, CALL DELL. I had the CPU whine as well. CALL DELL. If you have the T7250 processor, they'll likely upgrade you to a T8300. See this thread on their own website, and cite them to it if necessary:

    http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor...p&thread.id=202&view=by_date_ascending&page=9

True, the T8300 also can have the whine issue, but many people have suggested that it works, and it worked for me. Second, upgrade your BIOS if you have an old version. Power management is key, and an upgraded BIOS might take care of the issue. Lastly, I might recommend upgrading to SP1. Although I do not know of hand if there are power management fixes in SP1, there might be, and it's a good idea anyway to have the latest code.

You don't have to put up with the noise, it's not unavoidable, and no, you're not overly-sensitive. If you computer really has it, it is VERY loud.

I do have the T7250, but I've already contacted dell via phone and email. They just told me to download the new Bios and see if the noise is being made when the AC adapter is plugged in. Can I just say the noise is still there, which it is, and ask for the upgrade since it seems to work?

I've only had my current m1330 for about a week and a half now and I live in Hawaii. How likely is it that I'll be able to get the upgrade?

My 8 year old Dell Inspiron 4000 does the same thing the OP mentioned where it kinda buzzes but when I scroll a window the buzzing stops until I stop scrolling.
